Golden Arrows head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has revealed the “main reason” he stayed put at the club, with his future having been uncertain at the end of the last season.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor reunited with Abafana Bes’thende in the second round of the previous season, returning for a third stint.
Initially, it seemed his role would be to help the club stave off relegation, especially as he was being linked with potential moves to other clubs, notably in North Africa and various other African countries.
That interest hasn’t vanished; in fact, FARPost recently reported that the Umzimkhulu-born coach is on the shortlist for the Algerian club MC Alger.
However, for now, Mngqithi, who guided Golden Arrows to a 12th-place finish in the Betway Premiership standings last season with 31 points from 28 matches, is currently busy preparing the Durban-based side for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.
He explained that his decision to remain at Golden Arrows for the upcoming season stems from a deep sense of appreciation for the club’s trust in him during his first stint as an unknown coach between 2007 and 2010.

MNGQITHI ON STAYING AT ARROWS – ‘THAT’S THE MAIN REASON’
“The reason that makes me remain at Arrows is to show my appreciation to the club for the support they showed me with my family when I was still a young coach,” Mngqithi explained, his words translated from Zulu during his interview on Prime Time with Victor Molefe on Ukhozi FM.
“That’s the main reason. Arrows were good to me from the beginning, when you look at how I came to the club and how I was appointed to be the club’s head coach in the PSL, then.
“So, I felt that I should give myself to bring respect to the club that brought respect for me. Right now, I’ve got a lot of people who respect me because of Golden Arrows. So, I’ve come to try and lift the club from that situation that many people always think Arrows must fight relegation in the PSL.
“I want us to speak a different language because in the past, we knew that this club was almost guaranteed to be in the top eight.”
