Cape Town City FC has confirmed a significant squad overhaul, releasing nine players as part of a mass exodus. Among those departing is long-serving defender Thamsanqa Mkhize.
Mkhize spent nine seasons with the club and helped CT City secure two trophies.
The Citizens confirmed the development of the nine departing players on Saturday morning, as the new season is fast approaching.
This comes after the Cape club failed to save their Betway Premiership status during the recent PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs after finishing in 15th place in the SA top-flight last campaign.
CT City only managed to finish in position three in the mini PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs log standings with three points after four matches. North West side Orbit College FC secured promotion to the Betway Premiership after topping the table with eight points from four games.
As a result, the club owned by John Comitis will compete in the Motsepe Foundation Championship during the 2025/26 season.
THE NINE PLAYERS RELEASED BY CAPE TOWN CITY FC
The nine players who are on their way out of CT City are: Thabo Nodada, Thamsanqa Mkhize, Darwin Gonzรกlez, Darren Keet, Lorenzo Gordinho, Fortune Makaringe, Haashim Domingo, Elson Sithole, and Kamohelo Mokotjo.

The club thanked the outgoing players for their services during their stay at the Citizens.
“Cape Town City can confirm the departure of the following players whoโve worn the badge with pride and represented the club with heart,” said the club in a statement.
“Each player leaves with our deepest thanks for the dedication and professionalism they showed during their years at the club.
“We wish them nothing but success in the next chapter of their journey. Once a Citizen, always a Citizen”
The nine released players are now free to join any team of their choice after being granted their clearances from CT City.
