Following the announcement of Lorenzo Gordinho’s departure, alongside eight others, Cape Town City now appears to be reconsidering its decision regarding the veteran defender.
On Saturday, CT City confirmed a major squad overhaul, with the exits of nine players confirmed.
Among those departing is long-serving defender Thamsanqa Mkhize, a club stalwart who spent nine seasons at City, making 270 appearances. The other players confirmed to be leaving the Citizens are Thabo Nodada, Darwin Gonzรกlez, Darren Keet, Fortune Makaringe, Haashim Domingo, Elson Sithole, and Kamohelo Mokotjo.
This dramatic overhaul follows the club’s failure to retain their Betway Premiership status during the recent PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs. The Cape-based club finished a disappointing 15th in the SA top-flight last season.
In the mini-PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs, they managed only a third-place finish with three points from four matches. North West side Orbit College FC secured promotion to the Betway Premiership after topping the table with eight points from four games.

Initially, Gordinho, 31, seemed destined for a move to newly promoted Durban City ahead of the 2025/26 season. The defender had been an ever-present figure for CT City since returning to South Africa from Denmark, where he spent three years with Viborg and HB Kรถge.
WHY LORENZO GORDINHO IS RETURNING TO CAPE TOWN CITY
Durban City FC, formerly known as Maritzburg United, had reportedly agreed a deal in principle with Gordinho as they prepare for life in the top-flight after winning the Motsepe Foundation Championship title. Newly appointed coach Gavin Hunt was said to have recommended him.
However, FARPost can now reveal that Cape Town City has re-engaged Gordinho and tabled a new offer. Sources indicate the player is pleased with the revised terms from the Mother City club. As it stands, Gordinho could be among the Cape Town City players who report for pre-season training on Monday.
The squad was given a break until Monday after the playoffs last month and will now begin preparations for life in the second tier, with new faces also expected to join them.
