Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart has officially left the Soweto giants, as he has signed for newly promoted Austrian Bundesliga outfit SV Ried.

Maart, who plays as a midfielder, signed for Amakhosi in July 2022 from the Limpopo club, Sekhukhune United.

The 29-year-old made his debut for the Glamour Boys against the now-defunct Royal AM in an away match.

Last season, Maart was a key man to Chiefs’ squad, having featured in 33 matches across all competitions, scoring three goals and contributing three assists.

Overall, the talented midfielder made 95 appearances for Amakhosi, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists. Notably, he scored the historic winning goal in the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates last season, securing a 2-1 victory and ending a decade-long trophy drought.

To top it off, he also had the opportunity to captain the side during his three seasons at the Soweto giants. At Ried, Maart will join his fellow countryman, Antonio van Wyk, who turned out for Stellenbosch FC in SA.

KAIZER CHIEFS’ OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON YUSUF MAART’S DEPARTURE TO AUSTRIAN SIDE

“Midfielder, Yusuf Maart has left Amakhosi to join the newly-promoted Austrian Football Bundesliga outfit, SV Ried,” reads the club’s statement.

“The club appreciates Maart’s contribution to Kaizer Chiefs and wishes him well in this new chapter in his career.”

Maart did not travel with Chiefs to the Netherlands for their pre-season training camp as he had to finalise his paperwork.

The Glamour Boys will return to Johannesburg on Saturday, 19 July, from their pre-season training camp in the Netherlands. Chiefs are currently in Apeldoorn, a town which is 80 kilometres from Amsterdam.
