After taking over the coaching role at MC Alger, Rulani Mokwena has revealed how he plans to assemble his technical team at the Algerian giants.

Mokwena was appointed as the head coach of the Algerian Ligue 1 champions, marking his second job in North Africa. The highly-rated mentor spent the previous season in the Botola Pro in Morocco in charge of Wydad Casablanca.

His tenure with Wydad AC was a tough one; he finished the season without any trophies, which led to an unfixable rift with the club’s supporters.

Under Mokwena, the Red Castle ended up third in the league table, securing 54 points from 30 matches. They managed 14 wins, 12 draws, and four losses. This inconsistent run meant Wydad missed out on qualifying for next season’s CAF Champions League.

At Wydad, the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns coach had brought in his full technical team to help him in his mission to restore the club to its former glory. This included Alan Freese, Sinethemba Badela, Sibusiso Mahlangu, and Sibusiso Makitla.

WHAT RULANI MOKWENA SAID ABOUT HIS TECHNICAL TEAM AT MC ALGER

Having taken over the reins at the Algerian champions, Mokwena has revealed that he will bring in AmaZulu FC’s Wendell Robinson as goalkeeper coach and Enzo Donis as assistant coach, respectively.

Donis is currently serving as the assistant coach of the Togo National Team. Meanwhile, the South African-born coach also revealed that Sibusiso Mahlangu will come in as the fitness coach.

“The club [MC Alger] is insisting on a couple of people in the technical team, which is excellent because that still breeds familiarity,” Mokwena said on Metro FM.

“And there’s still technical stuff that knows how to win and do well in the [CAF] Champions League with this group, they know the culture.

“Hopefully, we can establish a good relationship with them very soon. That’s why I’ve got coach Wendell, who also speaks the goalkeeping language, and if we retain the goalkeeping coach, maybe the relationship can be established there.

“I have an assistant coach who worked at AS Vita, and he’s from Belgium. He’s coming on and he has agreed to leave his job with the Togo national team.

“So he’s excited by the project. He’s someone who allows us to have a hybrid because he also has expertise as a setpiece coach. It’s a well-thought-out space, and we also have Sbu [Mahlangu] from the conditioning side.”
