Sekhukhune United captain Linda Mntambo has set an ambitious goal inspired by Leicester City for his teammates ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.
Leicester shocked the football world by winning their first league title in the 2020/21 season and securing the 2021 FA Community Shield.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Kelme three-year sponsorship announcement, Mntambo expressed his confidence that the team can go all the way and win one or two trophies this season.
Since earning promotion to the top-flight in the 2021/22 season, Babina Noko has been consistently improving. They finished 11th in their debut season, followed by a seventh-place finish the following year. Over the past two seasons, they have achieved second-place finishes.
Ahead of the new season, ‘Figo’ is optimistic about their recent signings and believes they can defy the odds once again. The Limpopo-based club has announced the acquisitions of Sphiwe Mahlangu, Bradley Grobler, Manuel Sapunga, Miguel Timm, and Ronaldo Marmaan, with more signings to be announced.
LINDA MNTAMBO DRAWS INSPIRATION FROM LEICESTER CITY

“We aim to improve upon our performance from last season. [Although we finished second in the last two seasons], I think last season we got more points, more wins and more clean sheets,” Mntambo told FARPost.
“We’ve improved from the previous season, and this season we want to go above that. So, we want to make sure … hopefully a position three or two. And you may never know. If Leicester could do it, we do stand a chance.”
The club has been busy preparing for the new season and left on Monday for their pre-season camp outside Gauteng.
Mntambo, a former Orlando Pirates star, hailed the team’s “mood and cohesion”, adding that there is a sense that “it’s about time” to achieve great things.
“I can just feel it. I think I posted on social media the other day, saying, ‘Something’s coming and I can just feel it.’ We stand a chance of winning a trophy or two this season,” he added.
“Now we’ve more players with experience of winning. Bradley has achieved quite a lot in his career, given his impressive statistics. So, it will rub off on the young ones. Seeing a Cardoso play so many games at his age, he just doesn’t give up. He doesn’t slow down. He keeps going. That mixture already exists between the young boys and the senior players. I think it’s working beautifully for the club.”
