Chiefs & Pirates’ opening Betway Premiership fixtures of the season

Find out who the Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, will face in their respective opening fixtures of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season. Earlier this week, the PSL announced the kickoff times and venues for the 2025 MTN8, marking the start of the 2025/26 season.

The MTN8 kicks off on the first weekend of August, with defending champions Pirates taking on Polokwane City FC at Orlando Stadium on Saturday, August 2. Sekhukhune United will meet TS Galaxy at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on the same day.

On Sunday, August 3, Stellenbosch hosts AmaZulu FC at the DHL Stadium. The weekend closes with Mamelodi Sundowns facing Richards Bay FC at Lucas Moripe Stadium. The following weekend, the Betway Premiership season roars to life with several exciting fixtures lined up.

WHO DOES PIRATES AND CHIEFS PLAY IN THEIR OPENING BETWAY PREMIERSHIP FIXTURES?

The Buccaneers, who finished second last season, kick off their campaign with a match against Sekhukhune United at the Orlando Stadium. The fixture is scheduled for Saturday, 9 August [17h30]. Babina Noko defeated Pirates 1-0 towards the end of the 2024/25 season and will be looking to start strongly.

Bucs’ new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou will also be eager for a perfect start after signing several players, including Sipho Mbule, Kamogelo Sebelebele, Yanela Mbuthuma, Oswin Appollis, Sinoxolo Kwayiba, and Masindi Nemtajela, among others.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi travel to Cape Town to face Stellenbosch FC in the season opener. The match is set for the Athlone Stadium on 10 August [17h30]. Chiefs hope to finish higher after missing out on the top eight last season. They have signed several players, including Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Thabiso Monyane, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Flavio Silva, and Paseka Mako.

Defending champions Sundowns begin their campaign with a trip to the Eastern Cape, where they will face Chippa United at the Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday, 9 August.
