Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana star Lerato Chabangu’s links to a return to playing football have been clarified.
The 39-year-old has been at the Hope of Achievers Rehabilitation Centre in Limpopo due to his problems with alcohol. This is Chabangau’s six-month stay at the Centre since being admitted in February.
There has been progress since the last time FARPost visited the centre, with Chabangu now having obtained a SAFA D-coaching licence with the Polokwane Local Football Association.
NEWLY PROMOTED SIDE WANTS LERATO CHABANGU TO REVIVE HIS PLAYING CAREER WITH THEM
In recent days, Chabangu has been linked with a return to action for newly promoted Motsepe Foundation Championship side Gomora United.
Gomora chairman Joe Seanego has been quoted as suggesting that the club is open to having Chabangu as a player.

NO RETURN TO PLAYING FOR FORMER MAMELODI SUNDOWNS STAR
However, Hope of Achievers Rehabilitation Centre Owner Watson Luandi says that while Chabangu is on his way to recovery, returning to play is not something he intends to do.
“There are a lot of things that are in the pipeline for Lerato Chabangu. He recently obtained a D-Licence certificate. So there is a high possibility that he is going to go into coaching,” Luandi told Phalaphala FM.
“But there are rumours out there that say he is going to Gomora. Let me clarify it here now. There is no such thing. After his program, the doors will still be open for anyone who wants to work with Lerato, but he will be pursuing a coaching career.
“That’s his passion now. When he sees kids, he wants to teach them football. He always tells us that when I go out there, I don’t want these up-and-coming players to go through that,” he added.
