Cardoso on Vuyo Letlapa’s qualities amidst Austria interest

Sekhukhune United’s veteran defender, Daniel Cardoso, has shared his thoughts on the qualities of Vuyo Letlapa amid interest from Austria. Letlapa, who plays as a left-back, joined Babina Noko in July 2024 following his stellar displays at Jomo Cosmos.

The 21-year-old fitted like a glove in the Sekhukhune set-up, where he went on to play 27 games across all competitions, and contributed five assists for the Limpopo club.

His impressive performances in Babina Noko colours earned him his first Bafana Bafana call-up in March 2025 when Hugo Broos‘ charges faced Lesotho and Benin in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

In the past few weeks, Letlapa has attracted significant interest from the Austrian Bundesliga team Austria Vienna, whose intentions to sign the player were rejected by the club’s hierarchy.

This comes after Sekhukhune chairman, Simon Malatji, emphasised that the rising star is not ready for a European move.

DANIEL CARDOSO ON WHAT MAKES VUYO LETLAPA STAND OUT

The ex-Chiefs defender, Cardoso, described Letlapa as an exceptional left-back in South Africa and believes he is destined for success due to his qualities.

“You know, Vuyo is an exceptional left-back. There aren’t many left-backs in our country anymore who can offer what he provides in the field of play. He has a very bright future ahead of him, and he’s still very young,” Cardoso told FARPost.

“I believe if he stays focused and gives another season like he did last season, I think he will be great.

“His strengths are that he can go up and down; he has an engine. Most of the left-backs don’t go up and down anymore. I think that’s one of his strong points.

“Another thing about him is that his engine is unbelievable. There’s still a lot to work on with the right guidance. I think next season he will be out of the country.”
