Former Magesi FC coach Owen Da Gama has confirmed that talks had been held with clubs in the Premier Division regarding a possible move, but the discussions ultimately collapsed.

As it was first reported by FARPost, Da Gama was strongly linked with a move to Durban City. But the newly promoted side has since appointed former Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt ahead of the new season.

Da Gama parted ways with Magesi FC in a move that came as a surprise to football fans, given his track record at the club.

WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE REPORTED MOVE TO NEWLY PROMOTED DURBAN CITY?

Speaking to this publication, Da Gama said he understood that the delay in his departure at Magesi also had an impact on why he has not found a new club.

“There were people who were talking on my behalf, but I did not personally speak to anybody,” he revealed to FARPost.

“But there were people speaking on my behalf, and you know, clubs make decisions. They make decisions that make them comfortable. So that’s how football works.”

WHY OWEN DA GAMA HAS NOT FOUND A NEW CLUB AFTER LEAVING MAGESI FC?

“I think the unfortunate thing was that my departure from Magesi came late when other teams had already made arrangements for coaches and so on,” he said.

“That was the only unfortunate thing. If I had known at the end of the season that I wouldn’t be part of the team. I am sure something else would have worked out.

“So it’s all in God’s hands. I don’t know how soon or how late, but I am hopeful that something positive will happen soon.”

Da Gama also recently spent some time in Spain, where he refreshed his coaching education.
