Agent provides update on Rivaldo Coetzee

Rivaldo Coetzee with Sundowns

Prosport International CEO Mike Makaab has provided an update on Rivaldo Coetzee following his exit from Mamelodi Sundowns.

The highly-rated defender-cum-midfielder is a free agent after leaving Sundowns at the end of the previous Betway Premiership season.

Coetzee parted ways with the Brazilians upon the expiry of his contract on the 30th of June 2025. He left Sundowns after seven seasons, having joined the club in 2018 from Ajax Cape Town.

The 28-year-old had a successful stint with Masandawana, having won several major trophies, including the 2023 African Football League [AFL].

Coetzee made over 130 appearances across all competitions for Sundowns; however, in the past few seasons, he was troubled by injuries, which limited his contribution on the pitch.

The Bafana Bafana international left Sundowns alongside players such as Thabang Sibanyoni, Sipho Mbule, Sanele Tshabalala, Lebohang Maboe, Lucas Suรกrez, and Sifiso Ngobeni.

Mbule and Sibanyoni have already found new homes after joining Orlando Pirates and Durban City FC, respectively.

With the new season starting in the next few weeks, Coetzee will be eager to find a team to showcase his best abilities.

His agent, Mike Makaab, has revealed that there is interest in the talented defender, and he’s ready to go after recovering from injury.

“I think the first thing you need to remember is that Rivaldo left Sundowns with an injury, but he has made big progress and he should be ready by August,” Makaab told FARPost.

“There is interest in the player, but at the moment, nothing has been official. We hope that we will find a club for him sooner rather than later.”

Meanwhile, Sundowns is also set to loan out Kobamelo Kodisang to a club in the top-flight of Portugal. The pacey winger has struggled for game-time at Chloorkop, and he will search for regular playing minutes elsewhere.
