Banyana Banyana have set up a WAFCON semi-final date with Nigeria following their 4-1 win over Senegal on penalties in the quarter-final tie.
The game ended 0-0 after extra time at Honneur Stadium on Saturday night.
The CAF 2024 WAFCON last eight showpiece got off to a cagey start, with the two sides trying to get momentum.
As the half progressed, the Desiree Ellis‘ charges were dominant and created a couple of chances, but the defending champions were unable to find a breakthrough against the resilient opposition side.
Nonetheless, opportunities were scarce for both teams as the match neared the halftime break.

The half-time whistle blew with the scoreline still 0-0 between the two sides.
The second stanza was thrilling, with a steady stream of goal attempts, providing an enjoyable spectacle for the spectators in the stands
Banyana continued to dominate possession but found it difficult to break down a solid Senegal rearguard.

However, as the second half wore on, the Senegalese team succeeded in redeeming themselves but found it challenging to generate any goal-scoring chances.
Ellis’ troops were never discouraged as they increased their pace. They began challenging Senegal’s strong defence in hopes of finding a breakthrough.
However, in a surprising twist, South Africa found itself on the defensive and was unable to generate a significant chance.
BANYANA BANYANA AND SENEGAL WAFCON QUARTER-FINAL MATCH GOES TO EXTRA TIME
The match ended with a 0-0 scoreline, which led to the showdown going to extra time.
After 120 tiresome minutes, nothing could separate both teams. The match then went to penalties, where Banyana emerged victorious. The 2022 WAFCON champions are still on course to defend their title.
As a result, Banyana goes through the semi-finals, where they will take on Nigeria on Tuesday, 22 July 2025.
