Ex-Royal AM keeper headlines Baroka’s new signings

Former Royal AM goalkeeper Mondli Mpoto was officially unveiled by Baroka FC.

Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC has announced nine new signings, including former Royal AM goalkeeper Mondli Mpoto.

Baroka held their unveiling event at the club’s headquarters in Lebowakgomo on Saturday evening. The event was attended by members of the community, sponsors, as well and other football stakeholders.

The new signings mark a rebuilding period for coach Dan Malesela and the team. They recently lost versatile defender Tshepho Mashiloane, who has joined Soweto giants Orlando Pirates.

WHO ARE THE NEW SIGNINGS UNVEILED BY BAROKA FC?

The new signings at Baroka are Siyabonga Villane [Striker], Gift Muvhali [Right-back], Thapelo Makuwa [Left-back], Morris Buthane [Midfielder], Reshoketswi Mantjane [winger], Tetelo Lekwatsipa [midfielder], Harris Seoka [Right-back] and Moseki Shongoane [defender].

Meanwhile, the club has also parted ways with several players following the completion of the 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

Players who have left the club include Thuso Mogale, Sydney Malivha, Dan Ndlovu, Olaleng Shaku, Connor Zade Jales and Siyabonga Mthombeni.

Veteran defender and former Namibian international Ananias Gebhardt remains captain of the club and will be deputised by Bonginkosi Makume.

Meanwhile, the club has also parted ways with former assistant coach Amukelani ‘Jay Jay’ Hlungwani. Hlungwani leaves Baroka after three years, during which he also served as an interim head coach.

The club has also renamed their stadium from the Global Village as it has been officially known for years. The facility built in Lebowakgomo will now be known as Mafori Stadium from the beginning of the new season.

Mafori are now the main sponsors of the club following an official announcement made on Tuesday in Sandton, Johannesburg. They take over from fuel company Global, who are no longer the sponsor for the club.
