With Cape Town Spurs ready to defend their position regarding their duo who reportedly signed for Kaizer Chiefs, Amakhosi’s marketing and commercial director, Jessica Motaung, has outlined the club’s stance on the issue.
CT Spurs captain Asanele Velebayi and midfielder Luke Baartman reportedly signed new contracts with Chiefs as free agents shortly after the Cape Town club was relegated.
On the other hand, AmaZulu also signed Liam Bern under the assumption that their club was now in the amateur ranks following relegation from the Motsepe Foundation Championship. However, CT Spurs maintain their contracts still stand despite relegation and have instructed them to return to training.
The Urban Warriors have now pursued legal action against the players, who are eager to move to the Soweto giants.

Virtual hearings are scheduled this week for Spurs, the players, and their representatives to present their cases before the Dispute Resolution Chamber [DRC], which will later deliver a ruling.
Velebayi and Baartman are considered valuable long-term additions to Amakhosi, who will kick off their season on August 10th with an away match against Stellenbosch FC.
WHAT JESSICA MOTAUNG SAID ABOUT THE ASANELE VELEBAYI & LUKE BAARTMAN SAGA
“I think what’s important is that we are in the business of doing things in a way that’s not going to interfere with other clubs,” Motaung told journalists.
“We want to follow certain procedures, and that relates to any other players that we’re looking at. We’re taking a very professional approach to integrating and bringing players into the team. We’ll ensure that we only make announcements when the time is right. So, watch the space.”
She added that Chiefs “can’t be engaging players who are still with teams or are still contracted.” Motaung acknowledged there was a “process” after which an announcement would be made.
