Mamelodi Sundowns’ attacking midfielder, Luvuyo Phewa, has returned to AmaTuks for his second loan spell, as the club bolsters its squad for the new season. Phewa, whose parent club is Sundowns, spent the second round of the 2024/25 season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with Durban City after arriving in the January transfer window.
He was part of the City team that secured promotion to the Betway Premiership. Reuniting with Pretoria University, his experience could prove valuable for coach Kwanele Kopo. The talented midfielder is preparing for the new season and is eager to leave behind the challenges that limited his appearances during the first half of the previous season at AmaZulu FC.
His previous stint at Pretoria University in the 2021/22 season was quite successful as he finished as the top goal scorer. He also earned a Most Promising Player nomination in the Nedbank Cup alongside Mfundo Thikazi and Keegan Allan. Phewa will be hoping to rekindle that spark as he features the club once again.
AMATUKS TO BENEFIT FROM LUVUYO PHEWA’S EXPERIENCE

The club recently brought in Kopo as head coach, aiming to return to the top flight. In Phewa, they bring a skillful attacker with experience in both the top flight and second tier divisions. Since signing for Masandawana in 2019 from Royal Eagles, he has also had loan spells at Chippa United and Cape Town Spurs.
Sundowns signed him after his impressive run with Amajita at the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in 2019 in Poland. The former youth international also represented South Africa in the African Nations Championship [CHAN] the same year.
Indications are that he remains on the books of Sundowns, who continue to monitor his progress. The Motsepe Foundation Championship is expected to kick off at the end of August.
