A new face was seen training with Mamelodi Sundowns at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Monday, as the team returned for pre-season.

Masandawana are the last team to return for pre-season ahead of the highly-anticipated upcoming Betway Premiership campaign.

The Brazilians participated in the just-ended FIFA Club World Cup in the United States of America [USA]. Sundowns were eliminated from Group F, which had European powerhouses Borussia Dortmund.

Despite missing out on the knockout stages, Sundowns were the most-talked-about team in the 2025 Club World Cup after playing an entertaining brand of football, which included scoring two goals in their 3-2 defeat against Dortmund.

After their exit from the global showpiece, Sundowns gave players a few weeks to rest before resuming their preparations for the 2025/26 season.

With the Tshwane giants aiming to dominate all competitions on offer, the club commenced preparations under the guidance of head coach Miguel Cardoso.

While the reigning league champions are yet to announce the arrival of new players, Gomolemo Kekana was spotted training with the first team.

The talented midfielder has been a key figure in the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side, dishing out impressive performances in the middle of the park.

Kekana was also pivotal for the SA Under-20 squad that won the AFCON after defeating Morocco 1-0 in the final in Egypt. The 18-year-old scored the all-important goal to help Amajita lift the trophy for the first time ever.

Sundowns will open the new season with an MTN8 clash against Richards Bay FC at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday, 03 August.

The following week, Masandawana will start their Betway Premiership title defence with an encounter against Chippa United at Buffalo City Stadium.
