Durban City trialist attracts attention of a Congolese outfit

Durban City FC target Washington Navaya during training

Newly promoted Betway Premiership side Durban City FC’s target, Washington Navaya, has attracted the attention of DR Congo giants AS Vita Club, FARPost has learnt.

Striker Washington Navaya has attracted the attention of DR Congo giants AS Vita Club. Navaya, currently playing for TelOne FC in Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, had a four-day trial stint at Durban City FC early in July.

However, it is not yet clear if the Gavin Hunt-coached side is keen on signing the leading goalscorer in the Zimbabwean elite league. The 27-year-old striker has scored 11 goals for TelOne FC in the 19 games he has featured for them.

As such, the Kinshasa-based side, AS Vita Club, is monitoring his situation, with six months remaining on his contract in Zimbabwe.

AS Vita Club was previously home to SA star Mahlatse ‘Skudu’ Makudubela. Makudubela left the club on 30 June. He has already joined Angolan side Wiliete Sport Club de Benguela.

Meanwhile, for Navaya, Durban City FC is the first option, considering that they are newbies in the Betway Premiership.

The Durban-based outfit missed out on Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya, who was signed by AmaZulu FC from FC Platinum. The lanky forward has carved a niche in Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League due to his exceptional qualities. His powerful physique and dominance in the air have enabled him to score most of his goals from set pieces.

In addition, three other Zimbabweans are trying their luck at Magesi FC. The Caps United trio of Juan Mutudza, Wesley Milanzi and Sean Mzinde have been in South Africa for two weeks, hoping to impress the Magesi FC technical team.

They left Zimbabwe on July 10th and are still undergoing assessment. But it remains to be seen if they are successful.
