Bafana Bafana final squad for CHAN announced

The SA Football Association [SAFA] has announced the final Bafana Bafana squad for next month’s CAF African Nations Championship [CHAN] tournament, with former Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki at the helm.

The CHAN tournament kicks off on August 2nd, 2025, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Bafana Bafana will be based in Kampala, Uganda, for the duration of their campaign.

The squad is set to assemble in Johannesburg on Friday, July 25th, 2025, where they will hold a training camp before departing for Uganda on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025.

The opening match of the tournament will see co-host Tanzania face Burkina Faso at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025.

Bafana have been drawn into a competitive Group C, alongside Uganda, Niger, Guinea, and Algeria.

TOUGH GROUP FOR SOUTH AFRICA AT THE CAF AFRICAN NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIP

Ntseki’s troops will kick off their CHAN campaign against Algeria on Friday, August 8th, at the Mandela National Stadium. Their second group stage match will be against Guinea on August 11th, followed by a highly anticipated clash against Niger on August 15th.

South Africa’s final group stage encounter will see them face hosts Uganda on August 18th. Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stages of the tournament.

The squad is made up mainly of players who have not been attached to clubs following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

Mamelodi Sundowns is the club with the most players [5], including Neo Maema. Maema captained the CHAN squad in recent times.
