Betway Premiership side Golden Arrows has announced the signing of former AmaZulu FC and Marumo Gallants striker Junior Dion.
The Ivorian spent the past season at Gallants on a loan deal from Usuthu. He featured in 10 matches, scoring three goals. It was his second stint at Gallants since his arrival in South Africa in 2021.
He joined Gallants, while they were still based in Limpopo, from Botswana side, Jwaneng Galaxy. The 31-year-old attracted interest from other clubs after an impressive display, including helping Gallants reach the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Dion secured a move to AmaZulu FC during the 2022/23 season, reuniting with coach Romain Folz, who was in charge at the time. But after two seasons at the KZN side, Dion was eventually loaned out to Gallants.
JUNIOR DION UNVEILED AS THE LATEST SIGNING BY GOLDEN ARROWS
The club announced the arrival of Dion on Friday, describing him as the most powerful striker from Ivory Coast since Didier Drogba.
“The most POWERFUL Ivorian Striker since Didier Drogba. Junior Dion is here to dominate and score goals. Welcome, Striker Junior Dion,” the club wrote on their social media platforms.
Arrows also confirmed the signing of Oumar Komara, with the club drawing comparisons between the new defender and legendary Ivorian centre-back Kolo Touré.
The KwaZulu-Natal side welcomed Komara, stating, “The heart of a Lion, the silence and strength of an Elephant. He looks and plays like Toure… Kolo Toure. Abafana bes’thende, Welcome DEFENDER Oumar Komara.”
MORE SIGNINGS FOR THE KWAZULU-NATAL SIDER AHEAD OF THE NEW SEASON
Dion joins a list of other new players who have been signed by the club ahead of the new season. This includes six signings from the newly promoted side, Midlands Wanderers FC.
Midlands Wanderers are one of the three teams to secure promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship for next season. The players are Ntandoyenkosi ‘Beast’ Mabaso, Sboniso ‘Mancu’ Madonsela, Philani ‘Peekay’ Khumalo, Nhlanhla ‘Lulu’ Gasa, Alwande ‘Bhubesi’ Booysen and Mfanuvela ‘Mayambela’ Mafuleka.
Meanwhile, Arrows have opted to change their home venue for the upcoming season, moving away from Mpumalanga Stadium for their home fixtures. The club will play all their upcoming home matches at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi.
