Makaringe: ‘It was always going to be much easier for me…’

Fortune Makaringe in action for CT City FC

Fortune Makaringe has opened up on how veterans Dareen Keet and Thulani Serero helped him during their time at Cape Town City FC.

Makaringe, Keet, and Serero were released by CT City, along with Thabo Nodada, Thamsanqa Mkhize, Darwin González, and Lorenzo Gordinho.

Haashim Domingo, Elson Sithole and Kamohelo Mokotjo complete the list of players who were released. That was after The Citizens failed to retain their Betwat Premiership status in the PSL Promotion/Relegation Play-offs.

CT City will be competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship in the 2025/26 campaign. And after releasing the senior players, they will bank on the likes of Emile Witbooi, Luyolo Slatsha and Patrick Fisher.

WHAT FORTUNE MAKARINGE SAID

In an interview with FARPost, midfielder Makaringe shared how veterans Keet and Serero, among others, made it easy for him.

“I absolutely enjoyed every single moment of playing with everyone. It was always going to be much easier for me to play alongside Darren Keet, Thulani Serero, Thabo Nodada, Haashim Domingo and Lorenzo Gordinho.

“This is because of their understanding of the game. They know what is required in different phases of the game. Their experience and capabilities can’t be second-guessed; they helped us a lot,” Makaringe told FARPost.

The former Orlando Pirates man gave glowing comments to CT City’s youthful players, including the exciting Emile Witbooi.

“Even the young prospects like Emile Witbooi, Luyolo Slatsha and Patrick Norman Fisher. Siphamandla Dondolo and Heaven Sereetsi, who never featured much, also stood out for me,” he said.

In addition, Makaringe is currently training alone as his club hunting continues ahead of the new season. It remains to be seen if he will secure a club in the SA top-flight league.

The likes of Nodada and Domingo have been training with Durban City FC with hopes of joining the Betway Premiership newcomers. Keet has already penned a deal with the club.
