Former Cape Town City FC frontman Fagrie Lakay has completed a permanent move to Egyptian side Cleopatra FC from the 2024/25 CAF Champions League winners, Pyramids FC.
Lakay joined Pyramids on a two-and-a-half-year deal back in January 2022. However, the 28-year-old was sent out on loan last campaign to Cleopatra.
At Cleopatra last season, he played in 31 matches across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing eight assists.
Following his successful loan spell, Cleopatra decided to offer the South African forward a permanent deal given the value he added to their striking force.
He penned a deal with Cleopatra after Lakay’s contract with Pyramids came to an end on June 30, 2025.

“Back to you again. The knight of tough missions. The sniper in the presence of the Ceramica Cleopatra battalion. Welcome, Fagrie Lakay,” reads Cleopatra’s statement.

Lakay has won two trophies in his four years in Egypt, a North African nation. Last season, he won the Egyptian League Cup with Cleopatra.
Meanwhile, in the 2023/24 campaign, Lakay lifted the Egyptian Cup title with his former club, Pyramids.
Prior to signing a long-term deal with Cleopatra, the skilled forward was prepared to consider PSL proposals if Pyramids failed to extend his contract, as previously reported by FARPost.
โHe is ready to listen to PSL offers if they [Pyramids] do not renew his contract. A number of clubs are actually targeting him,โ the source told this website at the time.
Cleopatra’s hierarchy will be expecting Lakay to continue where he left off in the last term and to continue adding the much-needed value to the club, given his extensive experience in the beautiful game.
