Veli Mothwa and Prince Nxumalo join Amatuks

Former AmaZulu FC goalkeeper Veli Mothwa

Motsepe Foundation Championship side AmaTuks continues to bolster their squad with the addition of seasoned goalkeeper Veli Mothwa and striker Prince Nxumalo.

Mothwa joins AmaTuks after leaving Usuthu when his contract expired, ending a five-year stint with the club.

The South Africa international goalkeeper made 124 appearances for Usuthu and was part of the squad that finished second in the league during the 2020/21 season, earning a spot in the CAF Champions League.

The 34-year-old, who was initially linked with a move to Baroka FC, played in a friendly for the University of Pretoria against Power Dynamos of Zambia on Saturday.

Earlier, he featured in a friendly against Nsingizini Hotspurs of the eSwatini Premier League at Tuks Stadium on Tuesday. His experience could prove vital as the newly appointed coach, Kwanele Kopo, looks to guide them into the Betway Premiership promotion.

PRINCE NXUMALO COULD ADD VALUE TO AMATUKS

Nxumalo, on the other hand, spent last season at JDR Stars, where he scored nine goals. The 35-year-old, formerly with Sekhukhune United, is a proven goal scorer and could bring added value. He also played in the match against Dynamos.

Also spotted training with AmaTuks recently was former Marumo Gallants defender Vusi Sibiya, who was released by the Bloemfontein-based side.

Tuks have also signed midfielder Luvuyo Phewa, who previously spent time with the club on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns a few seasons ago. Additionally, two Sundowns reserve players, Onele Rulwana and Thulani Zandamela, have joined the club on loan.

Both players have been training with Kopo’s team in preparation for the upcoming season. Rulwana and Zandamela came through Sundowns’ DDC side and played key roles in their DDC campaign last season.

Kopo, who took over from Tlisane Motaung, has set a two-year goal to return the club to the Betway Premiership. Machete Moloto will assist him.
