Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielders Phathutshedzo Nange and Darrel Matsheke are among the players whose future remains uncertain at Marumo Gallants.
Surprisingly, Matsheke was the club’s marquee signing ahead of the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League season.
He was announced alongside the likes of Teboho Motloung, Bongolwethu Siyase, Abram Tjahikika, Simo Luthuli, Shaun Morgan, Jaisen Clifford, Kamohelo Sithole, Karabo Khoza, and Bheki Mabuza.
Matsheke spent the last six months at Motsepe Foundation Championship side Kruger United after signing a short-term deal. He had joined the club after a short stint at fellow National First Division side Pretoria Callies.
Nange, on the other hand, spent the past season at Gallants after parting ways with now-defunct SuperSport United.
WHY DARREL MATSHEKE AND OTHER PLAYERS ARE SIDELINED
FARPost has established that newly appointed head coach Alexandre Lafitte has made it clear that the players are not part of his plans for the upcoming season. The Frenchman reportedly prefers to work with a small group of players.

Marumo Gallants are currently in a pre-season camp in Rustenburg. The other players are training on their own in Mangaung.

Besides Nange and Matsheke, other players who have been left out of the pre-season camp include Tshepo Rikhotso, Rewaldo Prins, Mbulelo Wagaba and Obarate Morgan.
Before the arrival of Lafitte, the club also parted ways with players such as Dino Ndlovu, Ibrahima Aminata Conde, Kenneth Nthatheni, Siyabulela Shai, Kamohelo Mahlatsi, Gabadinho Mhango, Kopano Thuntsane, Vusi Sibiya and Daniel Akpeyi.
The club finished 10th last season under Abdeslam Ouaddou, who has since left to join Orlando Pirates. This is despite the early threats of relegation after a slow start to the season.
