Lucas Ribeiro Costa was the undisputed star of the 2024/25 PSL Awards, held on Tuesday, as the Mamelodi Sundowns talisman swept an impressive four accolades.
Sundowns and Orlando Piratesย collectively dominated the 2024/25 PSL Awards ceremony, securing six and seven awards respectively. This strong showing for the Tshwane giants comes on the heels of their impressive eighth consecutive PSL title win last season.
Leading the charge for Masandawana, Ribeiro was the night’s biggest winner. He was honoured as the Footballer of the Season, the Betway Premiership Players’ Player of the Season, and also received the Betway Premiership Goal of the Season and the coveted Golden Boot for being the top goalscorer.
Sundowns’ success extended to the coaching staff, with Miguel Cardoso being named Betway Premiership Coach of the Season.
Pirates also had a stellar night, with Relebohile Mofokeng bagging two significant accolades: the Betway Premiership Young Player of the Season and the MTN8 Last Man Standing.
The Buccaneers’ defensive prowess was recognised as Nkosinathi Sibisi secured the Betway Premiership Defender of the Season award, while Sipho Chaine was named Betway Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season. Midfield maestro Makhehleni Makhaula completed Pirates’ impressive haul, taking home the Betway Premiership Midfielder of the Season award.

MUZOMUHLE KHANYI OF HUNGRY LIONS WINS TWO AWARDS
The Motsepe Foundation Championship also saw significant recognition, with Muzomuhle Khanyi of Hungry Lions enjoying a fantastic night. Khanyi scooped both the Motsepe Foundation Championship Players’ Player of the Season and the Motsepe Foundation Championship Top Scorer of the Season awards.
Dumisani Msibi of Durban City FC was named the Motsepe Foundation Championship Goalkeeper of the Season, while Teboho Lekhatla from Casric Stars earned the Motsepe Foundation Championship Young Player of the Season award.
In the cup competitions, Elvis Chipezeze of Magesi FC was recognised as the 2024/25 Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament. Pirates’ Mbekezeli Mbokazi took home the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Tournament accolade, and Pule Mmodi from Kaizer Chiefs was awarded the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament.
In the DStv Diski Challenge, Tylon Smith, who played for Stellenbosch FC last season before joining English side Queens Park Rangers, won the DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season. The DStv Diski Challenge Top Goal Scorer award went to Orlando Pirates’ Siphamandla Msezane.
In addition, match officials were also celebrated, with Kgara Mokoena named Assistant Referee of the Season and Masixole Bambiso receiving the Referee of the Season award. The prestigious PSL Chairman’s Award was presented to Mamelodi Sundowns.
