Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela has called for patience from fans regarding the club’s new striker, Flavio Silva.
The Soweto giants kicked off July by announcing the acquisition of Flavio Silva, a move aimed at bolstering their attack for the 2025/26 PSL season. The 29-year-old Portuguese frontman joins the Glamour Boys from Indonesian top-flight club Persebaya Surabaya, where he impressively netted 23 goals last season.
Silva has already integrated with the Chiefs squad, featuring in three of their pre-season training matches in the Netherlands, most recently.
Silva also has a run in Amakhosi’s Toyota Cup match against Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko SC at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday. The game ended in a goalless draw, with Chiefs ultimately losing on penalties.
While he’s yet to score, fans are eager to see him replicate his prolific form in the upcoming season.

WHAT TSEPO MASILELA SAID ABOUT KAIZER CHIEFS’ NEW STRIKER FLAVIO SILVA
Former Bafana Bafana international, Tsepo Masilela, emphasised that it’s premature to judge Silva’s performance given he has just joined the club and requires time to settle in.
“I would love to see more of him. You know, with a striker like Silva, sometimes you have a bad pre-season, and the least you know, you are banging in goals,” Masilela told SoccerBeat.
“So, we have to be patient with him, you know. He has just joined the team and is new to the club. This is a different league and different teammates.
“You know, everything is different for him. The setup is different. In fairness, we can’t really judge him based on these friendly games he has played. It’s pre-season, and we need to give him some time to settle as well.”
Chiefs returned to SA on Saturday, 19 July, from their pre-season training camp in the Netherlands. So far, the Nasreddine Nabi-coached team has played four friendly matches and managed to walk away victorious in only one game.
