Former Young Africans SC head physiotherapist Sekhwela Seroto has spoken publicly for the first time since leaving the club.
Seroto recently parted ways with the Tanzanian giants after one season, as his contract expired and he decided it was time to return to his family.
During his tenure, the club secured five trophies, including the Tanzania Premier League and the prestigious FA Cup. Seroto told FARPost that his departure was driven by a desire to be closer to his family. “My family was a bit far from me, and I felt it was best to be nearer to them,” he said.
Expressing gratitude, Seroto praised the Yanga leadership and described his Dar es Salaam experience as “something out of this world.” He lauded the professionalism and standards of the players, noting they shared similarities with South Africa. “They bought into the vision and executed it well,” he added.
“The passion of the Yanga fans made our stadium experiences electrifying at all times. Their enthusiasm is truly unmatched.”
‘IT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF MY CAREER’ – SEKHWELA SEROTO

He acknowledged that travelling across Tanzania for fixtures was not always smooth and differed from travelling in South Africa.
“The biggest lesson I took from my time in Tanzania is that one must work with what they have, especially as a physiotherapist. If you have limited resources, use them effectively,” he explained.
Having previously participated in the FISU World University Games in China and the Gothia Cup in Sweden, he highlighted his year-long experience in East Africa as the pinnacle of his career. “I’ve been to the World University Games and the Gothia Cup,” he said, “but I can’t compare any of those to this one.”
Sekhwela and his brother operate a physiotherapy practice in Pretoria, and he will be resuming work there.
However, he is open to collaborating with any football clubs in Gauteng. “If any team is interested, I am willing to sit down and negotiate. I can be attached to a team or work as a consultant within Gauteng. Teams and schools travelling abroad can also utilise my services.”
Meanwhile, former Yanga video analyst Mpho Maruping has joined Sead Ramovic’s CR Belouizdad. The two worked together during Ramovic’s short stint in Tanzania. Seroto has tipped Maruping for great things in football.
“I’m so proud of that man. They must watch out for him. He’s a very good analyst; he sees the game through the eyes of a footballer. I think more footballers must get into that space like he has done.”
