Kaizer Chiefs have officially announced the departure of defender Bongani Sam, who joined the side from arch-rivals Orlando Pirates last season.
Last month, FARPost reported that Sam was on his way out of Chiefs, a regrettable turn of events given he never featured in an official match for the club. Sadly, a serious injury sustained upon his arrival at Amakhosi derailed any chances of him getting game time.
Now, ahead of the 2025/26 PSL season, Chiefs and the 28-year-old Sam have mutually agreed to part ways. He had initially signed a three-year deal with an option for an additional year when he joined.
Sam is the seventh player to leave the Soweto giants before the new season. He joins Tebogo Potsane, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Sabelo Radebe, Edmilson Dove, and Ranga Chivaviro on the exit list. Additionally, Njabulo Blom, whose loan spell ended, has signed with Vietnamese V. League 1 side Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC. In other transfer reports, former Amakhosi captain Yusuf Maart has been sold to Austrian club SV Ried.

KAIZER CHIEFS’ OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON BONGANI SAM’S DEPARTURE
The 2025 Nedbank Cup champions wished Sam the best of luck in his future endeavours. He is now a free agent and can join any team of his choice.
“After just one season, Kaizer Chiefs have amicably agreed to part ways with defender Bongani Sam,” said the club in a statement.
“The Gqeberha native joined the team from Orlando Pirates in July 2024. Wishing Bongani all the best.”
Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys are working hard behind the scenes to build a strong squad for the next campaign, with the side having announced the acquisition of Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva, Nkanyiso Shinga, and Siphesihle Ndlovu.
The club’s commercial and marketing director, Jessica Motaung, confirmed that more signings are expected to be made before the transfer window comes to an end on 22 September 2025.
