Why Siwelele won’t honour SuperSport’s Peter Mokaba deal

How the Peter Mokaba Stadium looks before the 2025/25 season.

FARPost has learned the reasons why Siwelele FC will not be playing any home matches at New Peter Mokaba Stadium, despite inheriting a year remaining on the agreement between SuperSport United and the Polokwane Municipality.

Siwelele FC recently purchased the Premier Soccer League [PSL] status from Matsatsantsa a Pitori ahead of the new 2025/26 season.

In the past few seasons, SuperSport had a deal with the Polokwane Municipality to take some major fixtures at the 2010 FIFA World Cup venue, the Peter Mokaba Stadium. This publication has established that the deal had one season left.

But in the recent Betway Premiership draft fixtures that have been circulated to club members, Siwelele will play their matches at both the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville and Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Mangaung.

“It’s totally out because it was an agreement with SuperSport,” Mpe told FARPost.

“With the new owners, we do not have an agreement. So we do not expect that they can be tied to the previous owner’s contract with us.”

PETER MOKABA STADIUM TO REMAIN WITH FOUR PREMIER DIVISION TEAMS THIS SEASON

“But we are fine and we believe that we have enough [teams]. Which city of our size has three PSL clubs? It also gives us time to ensure that our routine maintenance is not disrupted by too many clubs.

“It also gives us a breathing period. We expect more and more clubs to qualify for the Premier Division in the next season.”

Meanwhile, the New Peter Mokaba Stadium will host their first match of the new season on Saturday. Sekhukhune United will host TS Galaxy in the second fixture of the MTN8 quarter-finals at 18:00.
