Amid a renewed sense of optimism at Kaizer Chiefs, ex-captain Willard Katsande has shared his thoughts on what Nasreddine Nabi needs to completely twist the club’s fortunes.
The Chiefs legend suggested that despite massive expectations, Nabi needs at least six transfer windows to complete his Chiefs turnaround.
Last season, Chiefs were dismal in the Betway Premiership, finishing in ninth position. They, however, got a consolation after winning the Nedbank Cup, an automatic ticket to the 2025/26 CAF Confederations Cup.
The cup victory also saw Amakhosi end their decade-long trophy drought as they beat arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the final.
WHAT THE CHIEFS EX-CAPTAIN WILLARD KATSANDE SAID
In an interview with FARPost, Katsande said there is a need for more patience for coach Nabi to complete the team’s turnaround. Katsande is, however, convinced they will be strong enough to snatch a berth in the top six in the league this season.

“The team is rebuilding, taking a different direction. And they’ve done well last season in terms of recruitment and also the coaches as well,” Katsande said. “The coaches were new, taking our team means a lot of time and as I said, if we can give the coach at least six transfer windows.
“One was last season, the other was at the beginning of the season, mid-season and now this one, the third one, then the fourth one, the fifth one, sixth one.
“Then we look at him like, okay, ‘can you give us the league’? And you could see that last year he gave us the trophy, of which people are not convinced.
“Obviously everybody’s entitled to their opinion, but if you look at the bigger picture of the project, they’re heading in the right direction.”
The Glamour Boys have made serious reinforcements to the squad, and Katsande is buzzing about them. They have so far confirmed the signing of Ethan Chislett from Port Vale and Nkanyiso Shinga from FC Alverca.
Flavio Silva, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, and Siphesihle Ndlovu joined from Persebaya Surabaya, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United, respectively.
