In a touching gesture, Mohau Nkota has delivered a heartfelt tribute dedicated to Jose Riveiro, Orlando Pirates legend Joseph Makhanya, and the entire Bucs family, including chairman Irvin Khoza, as the youngster embarks on his new journey.
Nkota’s farewell message to Pirates came on Friday midnight, three weeks after the club confirmed his move to Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League. The 20-year-old caught the eye of the Saudi club following an impressive debut season with the Buccaneers.
During his breakout 2024/25 campaign, Nkota featured in 39 matches and contributed to 12 goals. Having been promoted to the first team at the start of the season after excelling with the club’s DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] side under coach Joseph Makhanya, the Kimberley-born attacker quickly made his presence felt.
Former Pirates head coach Riveiro handed Nkota his senior debut on October 19, 2024, in the Carling Knockout Cup against Magesi FC, where he replaced Monnapule Saleng at half-time. From that point on, Nkota became a regular and a key player in the Bucs squad.
