Orlando Pirates’ new signing Oswin Appollis has opened up about his recent move to the club from Polokwane City FC, stating his immediate willingness to join the club once their interest became clear.

The Bafana Bafana international joined Pirates a month ago on a long-term deal, ending speculation that had surrounded his future for several transfer windows.

The 23-year-old wasted no time making an impact, participating in the Buccaneers’ pre-season training camp in Spain. Appollis is one of 10 new acquisitions for Pirates this season. The other new faces include Sipho Mbule, Yanela Mbuthuma, Tshepho Mashiloane, Masindi Nemtajela, Kamogelo Sebelebele, Nkosikhona Ndaba, Tshepang Moremi, Sihle Nduli, and Sinoxolo Kwayiba.

Appollis was a key player for Polokwane City last season, featuring in 28 matches across all competitions, where he contributed two goals and an assist.

He made a dream debut for Pirates on Saturday in the MTN8 quarter-final clash against his former club, Polokwane City, at Orlando Stadium. Appollis not only scored a goal but also won a penalty, which Patrick Maswanganyi converted, sealing a 2-0 victory for the Abdeslam Ouaddou-coached side. His stellar performance earned him the Man of the Match award.

“Growing up watching Pirates was amazing, and most of my good friends support the club. The day they [Pirates] inquired about me, I didnโ€™t hesitate to sign.”

Appollis went on to state that he would love to win his first major trophy at the club, as he hasn’t won a title in his football career.
