‘I’m expecting more’ – Majoro reacts to MTN8 16 weekend goals

Patrick Maswanganyi scores a penalty during the MTN8 quarter-final clash against Polokwane City.

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker Lehlohonolo Majoro believes the 16 goals in four matches during the MTN8 quarter-finals are a serious indication of what’s to come this season.

It was a high-scoring weekend of football, with 16 goals scored across all matches. This brings the tournament’s total to just four shy of last season’s entire goal count of 20. The semi-finalists have now been confirmed.

Majoro, who is now part of the MTN8 ambassadors, says he is expecting more goals not only in the competition but the entire season.

“I am very impressed with the number of goals. It shows that teams this season are more prepared to go the extra mile by scoring goals,” Majoro told FARPost.

“To have 16 goals so far for me has been exciting. There is no game that we watched that didn’t have goals, and I believe that only transpires to the support that the teams have been getting at the stadiums and the dedication that the teams have. It shows that Wafa Wafa is in the building and R10 million is at stake.”

LEHLOHONOLO MAJORO EXPECTING MORE GOALS AS THE MTN8 SEMI-FINALS START TO GET EXCITING

“I am expecting more goals, even though I wanted a different [semi-final] draw, but I still believe there are more goals to be scored and more money that will go to charity. I can’t wait for the semi-finals.”

Meanwhile, the MTN8 semi-final fixtures were also confirmed on Sunday evening after the last quarter-final fixture.

Orlando Pirates will meet rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, while Sekhukhune United will take on Stellenbosch FC.

Looking to defend their title, Pirates will aim for their fourth consecutive MTN8 title. Their last victory was against Stellenbosch FC at the Moses Mabhida Stadium last season.

Pirates and Sundowns secured their semi-final spots with convincing victories, beating Polokwane City 2-0 and Richards Bay FC 4-0, respectively. Meanwhile, both Sekhukhune and Stellenbosch won their thrilling matches with 3-2 scorelines, edging out TS Galaxy and AmaZulu FC to advance to the next round.
