Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has provided an update on the Amakhosi’s pursuit of Mamelodi Sundowns striker Etiosa Ighodaro.
The Soweto giants have been one of the busiest teams in the current transfer window in preparation for what promises to be a mouth-watering 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.
A few weeks ago, Chiefs returned to SA from the Netherlands, where Tunisian coach Nabi took the players through their paces. The Naturena-based side is aiming to turn their fortunes after a disappointing showing in the league, which saw them miss out on the top eight in the previous campaign.
However, after a decade-long trophy drought, the Soweto giants finally broke their dry spell by winning the 2025 Nedbank Cup against their rivals, Orlando Pirates, in May.
In a move to build on the cup success, Chiefs have gone into the transfer market to sign players and beef up the quality of the squad. The Glamour Boys have already signed players such as Ethan Chislett, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Nkanyiso Shinga, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, and Flavio Silva.
Chiefs are reportedly not done signing players, and they are expected to welcome more new faces before the transfer window slams shut in September.
WHAT NABI SAID ABOUT ETIOSA IGHODARO

In recent weeks, Chiefs have been heavily linked with the signing of Ighodaro, who is still contracted to Sundowns. The Nigerian international spent the last season on loan with KZN side AmaZulu FC. The highly-rated forward featured in 27 matches across all competitions for Usuthu and scored six goals.
Speaking at the Betway Premiership launch in Sandton on Tuesday, Nabi stated that the signing of Ighodaro has been delayed due to administrative issues.
“That player [Ighodaro] belongs to another team with administrative issues, but he or another striker that we listed on our transfer list will be welcomed,” Nabi said when questioned by FARPost.
“For now, we will wait to hear from our administration if he or another striker will join. I saw the player you are asking about last season was playing for AmaZulu, and I believe he’s a good player, but he’s a player that doesn’t belong to our club, and we can’t say much about it.”
