Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town City FC has signed Dutch goalkeeper Mickey van der Hart as the start of the new season is fast approaching.
The Citizens confirmed the acquisition of the goal-minder van der Hart on Wednesday, 6 August 2025. He joins CT City from SC Heerenveen, who competes in the Netherlands’ elite league.
The 31-year-old featured in 22 matches for Heerenveen in the last term. The shot-stopper is deemed a replacement for Darren Keet, who left the club for Betway Premiership side in Durban City FC.
Keet cut ties with the Cape Town club after they were unable to retain their Betway Premiership status during the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs, having ended in 15th position in the SA top tier last season.
CT City ended up in third place in the mini PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs standings, securing three points from four games. North West side Orbit College FC achieved promotion to the Betway Premiership after leading the table with eight points from four matches
CAPE TOWN CITY FC’S OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON MICKEY VAN DER HART’S ACQUISITION
The Jan Vreman-coached side welcomed the Dutch goalkeeper with open arms and believe that he’s the right man to help them return to the Betway Premiership.
“We said we had news. You didnโt think itโd be Dutch, did you? Heโs here and heโs ready. Cape Town, meet Mickey van der Hart,” said the club in a statement.

Meanwhile, van der Hart has revealed the reasons why he signed for CT City, citing that the club has a lot of potential and it doesn’t deserve to play in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
“My ambitions for the club are obviously not based on the situation right now. I remember a picture of Peter Leeuwenburg, who was playing here, holding a cup and winning a trophy,” said van der Hart.
“I think if you look at City and the potential this club has, obviously it’s not in the right place. So right now, itโs part of my ambitions to bring the club back to the level where theyโre supposed to be.
“So, that was also a big part of the conversation I had with the president [John Comitis] about where this club wants to go and what it wants to achieve. It got me really excited about the project.
“I know it’s a long road ahead. It was obviously a bit of a bad season last year. Everybody knows that, but I think it’s good to start from scratch, build a new squad and a new team, and work towards that ambition that I believe this club should have and this city deserves.”
