Newly promoted Durban City FC have signed talented 20-year-old midfielder Siphelele Mthembu from KZN Academy. Mthembu, nicknamed โKanteโ, spent last season at Sinenkani FC in the ABC Motsepe League.
Durban City have signed him on a three-year deal, as they anticipate a bright future for him at the club. The young midfielder is primarily a defensive midfielder. The Inanda-born star is also capable of operating as a box-to-box midfielder.
โKanteโ joins the Durban club alongside veteran midfielders Thabo Nodada and Haashim Domingo. He is expected to learn from the experienced duo, who both join the club from relegated Cape Town City FC.
The 30-year-old Nodada, who spent over a decade at the Mother City club, left following their relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship via the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs last season. Domingo only spent a season at CT City.
WHO ELSE HAS JOINED DURBAN CITY FC ALONGSIDE SIPHELELE MTHEMBU?

Durban City, led by veteran mentor Gavin Hunt, have strengthened its squad with several notable signings ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.
The club has added striker Jean Lwamba, who joins from Tafic FC in Botswana, and defender Kyle Jurgens, formerly of Stellenbosch FC. Additionally, Liam De Kock, a former Stellies and NB La Masia defender, has signed with the team.
Goalkeeper Fredrick Asare, an international from Ghana, has also been recruited to bolster the squad.
Other new additions include Trevor Mokwena from Upington City FC, Brooklyn Poggenpoel from SuperSport United, and veteran goalkeeper Darren Keet from Cape Town City FC.
They kick-off their season with an away game against TS Galaxy on Sunday at the Mbombela Stadium. Next Wednesday, they then host Chippa United at Chatsworth Stadium, followed by a KZN Derby against Golden Arrows on August 19th.
