Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Lucas Suarez has been confirmed as the latest signing by Uruguayan Primera Division side Liverpool.
The Argentine centre-back joined Sundowns on a loan from Club Atlรฉtico Lanรบs in his home country in January, but left the club at the end of the 2024/25 season.
During his six-month loan at the Tshwane giants, Suarez made 14 appearances in all competitions and netted one goal. But Sundowns decided against exercising the buyout option for the Argentinian defender.
Initially, the 30-year-old was expected to reinforce the left side of the defence, replacing Moroccan Abdelmounaim Boutouil.
Despite winning the Betway Premiership with Sundowns, Suarez was released by the club due to a series of poor performances. He notably made costly mistakes in big matches against rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. The defender also did not travel with Sundowns to the recently concluded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.
