Zwane issues update on Ofori’s injury ahead of league opener

AmaZulu FC head coach Arthur Zwane has provided an update on goalkeeper Richard Ofori, who sustained a head injury last week.

The Ghanaian international couldn’t finish the MTN8 quarter-final against Stellenbosch FC last Sunday, after a knock on the head, leaving the field in the 31st minute at the Cape Town Stadium.

Olwethu Mzimela, who was on the bench on the day, came on with AmaZulu, ultimately losing 3-2 in the extra-time, suffering a first-round elimination in the competition.

Zwane has revealed that the former Orlando Pirates goalie is likely to make his return to action within the next two weeks. The Kaizer Chiefs legend said that the club’s medical staff are taking a cautious approach to ensure the player is fully fit and safe to return.

ARTHUR ZWANE ON WHEN OFORI WILL COME BACK FROM INJURY

“Yeah, he’s still not okay, he’ll come back probably after a week or two,” said Zwane during the club’s media open day on Wednesday.

“You’ll remember that this thing happened also in Richards Bay [during the KZN Premier’s Cup]. So, that’s why it is a bit of a challenge.

“When these knocks keep on happening in the head can cause damage. But we need to play safe; however, we’re okay because we have players.”

AmaZulu will kick off their Betway Premiership season with a home match against Orbit College FC this upcoming Saturday, 9 August, at the Princes Magogo Stadium at 3 PM.

Zwane feels the difficulty of their match against the league’s newbies lies in the fact that they’re a new team in the top-flight, which makes it challenging for his side to predict Orbit College’s approach.

“This is a difficult match because people haven’t seen Orbit and they have seen us,” added Zwane.

“This gives people hope that already AmaZulu [should get the better of] Orbit. But we’re treating this game as we would any other, just like we did with Stellenbosch.”

“We will give all the games the same respect. Yes, the approach might be slightly different because we don’t play the same; their qualities and ours aren’t the same. In terms of how we want to exert ourselves and the mentality, it must be the same.”
