Bafana Bafana defender Wayde Jooste has shared two main goals he’s pursuing at the CHAN tournament, which is currently underway in co-host nations Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
South Africa kicked off their CHAN tournament with a 1-1 draw against Algeria, with Thabiso Kutumela netting the only goal for the team.
Bafana will aim for a victory in their next game against Guinea on Monday, August 11, at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium.
Jooste, who played the full 90 minutes in the first match, spoke exclusively with this website, expressing his delight at the opportunity to represent the national team. He also sees this as a crucial chance to showcase his abilities, as he is currently a free agent after departing AmaZulu FC at the end of the previous season.
‘HOPEFULLY I CATCH A FEW EYES’ – SAYS UNATTACHED JOOSTE
“I feel it’s always a good opportunity to showcase yourself if you’re a free agent,” Jooste told FARPost.

“It’s always a good chance to the teams out there that you deserve to have a team. I don’t want to be a free agent, so hopefully I’ll catch a few eyes. It raises a few questions, with people asking, ‘Why is this guy free? How come he doesn’t have a club?’.
“But my main focus is not on that. My main focus is just to play well and represent the country well. Anything that happens after that is a bonus.”
Jooste also added that he’s looking to “make history” with the national team led by Molefi Ntseki, aiming for the title.
JOOSTE’S DESIRE TO MAKE HISTORY WITH BAFANA
“My wish is to do everything I can do, to contribute as much as I can and help the country make history,” added Jooste.
“I’m already part of that because the last time we qualified for CHAN was 12 years ago. So, now there’s more history to be made.
“I want to play as much as I can, enjoy myself and remind myself why I’m still playing after so many years.”
