Makhoye on when Orbit’s home matches will return to North West

Orbit College head coach Pogiso Makhoye speaking with media

Orbit College FC head coach Pogiso Makhoye has provided an update on when the team will return to hosting its home matches in the North West.

Betway Premiership newbies recently announced a change of venue for their home match against Siwelele, moving the fixture from Olympia Park to Dobsonville Stadium. The match will take place on Tuesday, 12 August.

As previously reported by this website, Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg is still experiencing issues with its floodlights and doesn’t meet PSL standards.

Meanwhile, the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, which would be another potential venue in North West, is also unavailable for play because of incomplete roof renovations, despite the pitch being in good condition.

According to Orbit College coach, the Olympia Park could be ready to host the top-flight matches “in the next two to three weeks”. He believes they will play their fourth home game at home.

MAKHOYE ON TIMELINE FOR RETURNING TO NORTH WEST

“It’s something that is beyond our control because we thought by then the stadium would be ready,” said Makhoye, speaking with the media after their 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu FC on Saturday at Princess Magogo Stadium.

“But the stadium is not ready. These are the challenges we faced even in our first season when we played in the MFC [Motsepe Foundation Championship], something like this happened.

“We had to play about five [home] games away from home. Maybe we will perform better away at Dobsonville. Maybe it will be a blessing playing away from home even though it’s a home game.

“But the municipality is still working on it, I think in the next two or three weeks, everything will be okay. I think with the fourth [home game], we will be back at home.

“I know it’s also disadvantaging us because we also wanted to play at home where we are used to the field, rotating the ball. But it’s what it is, these are the challenges we have to face.

“But we will have to accept and move on and make sure that even on Tuesday [against Siwelele], we perform better because it’s our home game even though it’s away from home.”
