Recently signed Simba SC defender Rushine De Reuck has opened up about what led to his limited game time during his stint at Mamelodi Sundowns.
The former Bafana Bafana international signed a one-year deal with the Tanzanian giants, with an option to extend. He had spent four seasons at Sundowns before his loan move to Israeli club Maccabi Petah Tikva.
The 29-year-old has been reunited with coach Fadlu Davids, with whom he previously worked at Maritzburg United [Durban City FC]. In an interview with the Simba media team, De Reuck reflected on his time at Sundowns, admitting that an injury had a significant impact.
“It was a good experience for me at Sundowns,” he said. “When I joined, I played many games, a lot of important games, and I was an important figure in the team for about two and a half years.”

“But I got an injury, and that kind of slowed down my progress. The players that were playing at the time when I was out were doing well,” he added.
“So I found it a bit difficult to break into the line-up. But there were a lot of other things that happened. Things that I don’t really want to disclose. But for me, it’s in the past. It’s a new chapter for me now to focus and show my quality.”
De Reuck also described joining Simba as a big responsibility, one which he has grabbed with both hands.
“It’s a special feeling. Simba is a very big club. You experience it more once you are in the environment. I am very happy to be here, and it’s a big privilege for me. I also know it’s a big responsibility.
