Cape Town City rope in former Chiefs defender

Njabulo Ngcobo unveiled by Cape Town City FC

Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town City FC has roped in former Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo. The move comes just two weeks after Ngcobo parted ways with Sekhukhune United.

The Cape club confirmed the acquisition of the 31-year-old centre-back on Friday, 15 August 2025.

The former SA top-flight Defender of the Season, Ngcobo, cut ties with Babina Noko on a mutual agreement, having signed for the club in July 2024 on a free transfer after Amakhosi went against renewing his contract.

In the last term, Ngcobo struggled for game time at the Limpopo club, as he only played in six matches across all competitions, which led to the two parties going their separate ways.

CT City expressed their delight to have Ngcobo on board. The club believes his experience will be vital in helping them return to the Betway Premiership next campaign. The Citizen suffered relegation from the Premiership to the second-tier league last campaign.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of defender Njabulo Ngcobo. Welcome to the Mother City, Njabulo,” said CT City in a statement.

Ngcobo becomes the fourth player to be signed by the CT City ahead of the Motsepe Foundation Championship new season.

The side has already unveiled the signings of three players a week ago. The new recruits are: defender Sifiso Ngobeni, goalkeeper Mickey van der Hart and striker Simon van Duivenbooden.

In addition, before his move to the Citizens, Ngcobo was in talks with the newly promoted Betway Premiership club Durban City FC, as previously reported by FARPost. But the deal did not materialise. He also trained with Chippa United before eventually signing with CT City.

The Gavin Hunt-coached side secured automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership after finishing the 2024/25 season at the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship table with 58 points from 30 outings.

The 2025/26 Motsepe Foundation Championship season is set to start on Friday, 22 August 2025.
