Richards Bay FC head coach Ronnie Gabriel has discussed a motivational factor his team will use in their upcoming match against Kaizer Chiefs.
The two sides will lock horns on Tuesday, 19 August, at the FNB Stadium in Soweto, with a kick-off time set for 7:30 pm.
The Natal Rich Boyz will be looking for a turnaround after losing their first two games of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership. They started with a 2-1 away defeat to Marumo Gallants and then lost 1-0 to Golden Arrows in the KZN Derby.
Meanwhile, Chiefs have had a perfect start to the new 2025/26 season, winning both of their opening games in the Betway Premiership. They first triumphed 2-1 over Stellenbosch FC away in Cape Town before beating Polokwane City FC 1-0 at home.
Gabriel acknowledged the monumental challenge of visiting Chiefs at FNB Stadium but noted that his team has a crucial source of motivation. He pointed out that they defeated the Glamour Boys in their last encounter and will use that result to fuel their push for victory. The last time these two teams met, Chiefs were handed a 2-0 loss at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi.
GABRIEL – ‘WE MUST BELIEVE WE CAN BEAT CHIEFS’
“Chiefs away from home is always a tough fixture, it’s always a big fixture, and we will have to prepare well,” said Gabriel.
“I think we have to look back at our last season’s performance against Chiefs, bring back those feelings, those memories, and believe that we can go there and beat Chiefs.
“I think in the last fixture, we beat Chiefs here at home. So, we will have to go back into our thinking and see how we plan and use that as a motivation to know that we can go away from home and give Chiefs a game.
“Hopefully, we will get a result away from home.”
