Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the acquisition of the highly-rated attacker Luke Baartman on a free transfer, boosting their squad for the 2025/26 season.
The young talent is joining Chiefs from Cape Town Spurs, who were relegated to the ABC Motsepe League at the end of last season.
The move comes after the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber declared him a free agent on Tuesday morning, giving a green light to Chiefs to sign the rising star.
In the past few weeks, CT Spurs approached the PSL DRC to argue that Baartman and Asanele Velebayi are contracted to the club, and the Soweto giants have to pay for their services.
However, the ruling has gone in favour of the two players to complete moves to Glamour Boys. Velebayiโs ruling came a week ago, while Baarmanโs judgment only came on Tuesday, 19 August 2025.
After the ruling, Chiefs moved swiftly to snap up the 19-year-old who has already arrived in Gauteng to team up with his new teammates.
In the previous season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Baartman featured in 12 league matches and netted three goals.
The South Africa junior international also bagged a nomination in the 2025 PSL awards for the Motsepe Foundation Championship Young Player of the Season.
BAARTMAN JOINS CHIEFS FROM CAPE TOWN SPURS

Chiefs announced the arrival of Baartman just before their midweek clash against Richards Bay FC on Tuesday night in the Betway Premiership at FNB Stadium in Soweto.
“Following this morningโs announcement of the acquisition of Etiosa Ighodaro, Kaizer Chiefs are pleased to confirm the signing of another forward, Luke Baartman, making him the Clubโs ninth signing of the 2025/26 season,” reads the club statement.
“The 19-year-old junior international joins Amakhosi from Cape Town Spurs, where he played in the Motsepe Foundation League last season. He has also represented South Africa at the junior level.
Meanwhile, Chiefs’ sporting director, Kaizer Motaung Jr, expressed his excitement over the acquisition, highlighting Baartman’s versatility and potential to contribute to the team’s success.
“Weโre thrilled to welcome Luke to our team,” said Kaizer Jr. “He is an exciting young talent that weโve been monitoring for the past few seasons both at club level, in the Bayhill Cup – where he was voted player of the tournament – and the U-17 national team that played at AFCON. We believe he will bring valuable versatility, playing both as a centre-forward and a winger. We look forward to seeing him in action soon.”
