The Rustenburg Local Municipality in the North West has revealed the time frame set for the completion of renovations at the Olympia Park Stadium, which is home to Orbit College FC.

The newly promoted Betway Premiership side has been forced to take their home matches to the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, Gauteng. The Municipality in Rustenburg is currently addressing issues related to floodlights at the Olympia Park facility.

The club beat Siwelele FC at their temporary home venue in Soweto. They are set to host Sekhukhune United at the same venue on Tuesday evening in a league game.

RUSTENBURG LOCAL MUNICIPALITY ISSUE UPDATE ON THE RENOVATIONS AT OLYMPIA PARK STADIUM

“The contractor was appointed last week, and they have begun to fix the floodlights,” Acting Communications Manager at Rustenburg Local Municipality, Odirile Madiba, told FARPost.

“If you remember, that’s an old facility. So the cables and other stuff for the floodlights were outdated.

“So we had to get customised equipment to make sure that we could fix the lights,” she added.

WHEN IS THE EXPECTED DATE FOR ORBIT COLLEGE FC TO RETURN TO THEIR ORIGINAL HOME VENUE

“The expected date for the completion of everything is mid-September,” revealed Madiba.

“That’s when we will be able to say everything has been sorted out, and we can call the PSL back to assess all the issues that they had raised.”

The Acting Communications Manager also revealed that the Municipality had made a decision to upgrade other parts of the stadium even though the PSL never raised any concern.

“If you look at our stands, they don’t look so good. So we secured a sponsor from Glencore Mine. They came on board to assist with the pavilion stands.

“Another issue that was not necessarily raised by the PSL but was part of the renovations was the change rooms. The municipality identified that the change rooms need to be upgraded. So they have been upgraded as well.”
