Former PSL top goal-scorer Rodney Ramagalela has named four strikers he believes will be the players to watch in the South African elite league for the 2025/26 season.
The retired footballer is of the view that the new campaign will be a season of many goals compared to the previous term.
The 2025/26 PSL season commenced on the 2nd of August with the MTN8 quarter-final fixtures, and the Betway Premiership officially took centre stage on the 9th of August 2025.
During the 2017/18 season, Ramagalela was crowned the South African top-flight top goal-scorer with 11 goals while playing for Polokwane City FC, an award shared with Percy Tau, who was on Mamelodi Sundowns’ books at the time.
THE FOUR STRIKERS SINGLED OUT BY RODNEY RAMAGALELA
Ramagalela has tipped four strikers to dominate the league this season: Mamelodi Sundowns’ trio of Iqraam Rayners, Lucas Ribeiro, and Peter Shalulile, along with Orlando Pirates’ Tshegofatso Mabasa. However, both Mabasa and Ribeiro have yet to play this season, with indications that Ribeiro is on his way out of Sundowns.

Ramagalela reckons that these four players have a blend of outstanding technical abilities, which include effective finishing skills and speed, with a strong work ethic.
Ribeiro was the 2024/2025 Betway Premiership top goal-scorer after he found the back of the net on 16 occasions.
“I believe there is one Iqraam Rayners who has been doing well for quite some time. There is also Lucas Ribeiro, who has been doing extremely well for Sundowns,” Ramagalela told FARPost.
“Personally, I would love to see Peter Shalulile come back to his scoring form. We also have Tshegofatso Mabaso from Orlando Pirates. He is someone we know that he can score.
“I would also love to see the newbies [new faces] coming to the fore to show what they are capable of. ย I think it’s time we have new faces.
“But we also want to see how far they have worked individually on their scoring performance because you can’t wait for the coaches to help you. I think you need to help yourself so that you can tell us where you are, because scoring is not an easy thing. We have seen it in the past, and I believe everyone wants to be on the scoresheet. We are going to see so many goals this season.”
