Kaizer Chiefs defender Bradley Cross has reflected on his position change, discussing his transition from a centre-back to a left-back and how he’s adapting to the new role.
Primarily a left centre-back throughout his youth career, Cross has successfully transitioned to playing left-back since joining Chiefs.
The 24-year-old signed with Amakhosi in September 2024 from Golden Arrows. Since his arrival, he has been a consistent presence in the left-back position.
Last season, Cross made 23 appearances for the Glamour Boys. He has featured in all three of their opening Betway Premiership matches this season, helping the team secure a perfect defensive record with three clean sheets. His contributions were vital in their 2-0 win against Stellenbosch FC, a 1-0 victory over Polokwane City FC, and another 1-0 win against Richards Bay this month.

BRADLEY CROSS ON HIS TRANSITION TO LEFT-BACK POSITION
Despite playing as a left centre-back throughout his youth career at FC Schalke and Newcastle United, Cross stated he is now learning and improving in his new role, taking his development “one game at a time.”
“Well, I have been a left centre-back since I was young. I played as a left centre-back at FC Schalke and Newcastle United,” said Cross during Chiefs’ open media day at Naturena on Monday.
“I have also been able to play left-back, but I’m still learning and improving in that position.”
Chiefs will be hoping to continue with their impressive fine form in their midweek Betway Premiership fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns on 27 August [Wednesday] at FNB Stadium. The showdown will start at 19:30.
As things stand, Amakhosi are placed second on the Betway Premiership log standings with nine points from three outings.
The last time Amakhosi secured three consecutive victories at the start of a new season, they won the league in the 2014/15 campaign under the tutelage of Stuart Baxter.
