Sundowns beat 10-man Magesi at Seshego Stadium

Betway Premiership tie between Magesi FC and Mamelodi Sundowns at Seshego Stadium

Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 2-0 win over Magesi FC in a Betway Premiership encounter at a packed Seshego Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday night.

Dikwena Tsa Meetse were doing a fine job of frustrating the visitors, Masandawana, in the opening stage of the first half, pushing forward in numbers.

However, Miguel Cardoso‘s boys did not just sit back and watch the hosts take command of the showpiece.

As the first-half wore on, the complexion of the clash changed, with both teams testing each other’s goals.

Around the 30th minute, the match slowed down a bit, as Magesi struggled to establish a rhythm and maintain ball possession, largely because Sundowns persistently denied them time and space.

The match went into the interval with a 0-0 scoreline, as neither team could break the other’s backline.

The Chloorkop-based outfit had a couple of scoring opportunities in the second stanza, but failed to capitalise on their clear-cut chances.

The John Maduka-coached side held on to defend well and stopped Sundowns’ attackers from forcing them to make errors in the box.

However, that did not last long as Jayden Adams found the back of the net to put Sundowns in front in the 74th minute of the contest.

Lehlohonolo Mtshali of Magesi received a red card in the 80th minute of the game, leaving the Limpopo club playing the last 10 minutes of the clash with one man down.

Peter Shalulile added to the scoreline in the 88th minute to make it 2-0 in favour of Sundowns. Shalulile’s goal saw him go equal with Siyabonga Nomvethe on 129 goals in the PSL.

In the end, it was Bafana Ba Style that claimed all the valuable three points away from home.

OTHER BETWAY PREMIERSHIP RESULT

Meanwhile, Marumo Gallants succumbed to a 1-0 loss to AmaZulu FC at the Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu.

Keagan Allan broke the deadlock in the stoppage time of the first-half to give Arthur Zwane’s side a lead. Allan’s solo goal was enough to earn Usuthu a victory at home.
