Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has given an update on Themba Zwane’s injury, revealing a timeline for the player’s recovery.
The club’s captain, Zwane, sustained an injury during the first half of the Brazilians’ MTN8 semi-final first-leg match against Orlando Pirates on Saturday. He left the field early, with Jayden Adams taking his place.
The injury comes as a setback for Zwane, who had only recently returned to action a few months ago after being sidelined for a lengthy period with an Achilles tendon injury he suffered last season.
Following Masandawana’s 2-0 victory over Magesi FC in the Betway Premiership at Seshego Stadium on Wednesday night, coach Miguel Cardoso was asked for an update on when ‘Mshishi’ would be returning to the team.
Cardoso revealed that Themba Zwane is expected to be out for two months, but the Portuguese coach stated that the club’s medical staff would make every effort to shorten that timeline.

CARDOSO ON TIMELINE FOR ZWANE’S INJURY
“Unfortunately, Themba will be out for, I believe, maybe two months, probably,” Cardoso told the journalists.
“It’s unfortunate, but he will come back stronger for sure, and we are expecting him to come as quickly as possible. Since the moment he got injured, the club and Themba made every effort to make that time as short as possible. Let’s hope we can make it as short as possible.”
Cardoso also stated that Zwane’s injury is a significant blow to the team, as is the absence of any other player not fully fit for selection.
“All players and everyone who’s part of the family [if] they are not 100% [fit], it is a big blow,” Cardoso added.
“But he will come back again, and soon he will be on the pitch, but [for now] we will rise with others.”
