Venda FC head coach and academy director Clinton Larsen has disclosed why he rejected other offers to join the Limpopo Motsepe Foundation Championship side.

The well-travelled mentor, Larsen, was appointed to the dual role in June this year, following the conclusion of the 2024/25 PSL campaign. Larsen takes over the coaching role at Venda FC from Stanford Nkoane.

The 54-year-old gaffer will be assisted by former SA junior coach Solly Luvhengo at the Vhembe-based outfit.

Larsen has been without a job since December 2024 after leaving Magesi FC. He resigned from live television after Dikwena Tsa Meetse lost 3-0 to Carling All-Stars in the Carling Black Label Cup at Orlando Stadium on Saturday, December 21, 2024.

‘I HAD OTHER OFFERS,’ SAYS CLINTON LARSEN

Larsen revealed that he rejected other offers to join Venda FC due to the club’s professionalism and the actions taken, noting that other clubs only talk without taking action.

“You know, this is not the first time the club has reached out to me. But I just want to say this was the right time to join the club,” said Larsen, who won the Carling Knockout Cup with Magesi last season.

“After speaking with the chairman [Itani Munzhelele] and the CEO [Dr Rendani Mulaudzi] just before the pre-season started, when the club told me about their intentions to try to build an academy and the seriousness of what they are trying to do now, as well as the changes that are being made internally, I just felt that this was the right place for me to be.

“Yes, I had other offers, but I didn’t consider any of them after speaking to the CEO and the chairman. I’m really lucky to be here at a club where it’s not just all talk without any action. I have been at such clubs throughout my coaching career where there’s a lot of talk without any action.

“But since the day I arrived here, I have seen a lot of action, and that shows you what the club is trying to achieve.”

The 2025/26 Motsepe Foundation Championship season is set to start on Friday, 22 August 2025. Venda FC will lock horns with Cape Town City FC at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.
