Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Neo Maema’s new club has been confirmed. Tanzania giants Simba SC have announced the signing of former Downs attacker.
Maema linked up with his new Simba SC teammates in Ismailia, Egypt. The South African midfielder recently cut ties with Sundowns, paving the way for him to join Wekundu Wa Msimbazi.
The Dar es Salaam giants are embarking on a four-week intensive pre-season in north-eastern Egypt ahead of the 2025/26 season that kicks off next month. Head coach Fadlu Davids joined the 22-time Tanzania Premier League champions at the start of the 2024/25 season, and it was a successful maiden term for him.
The South African coach guided The Reds of Msimbazi to a second-place finish in the Tanzanian Premier League and the final of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Davids is aiming for an even better season and has strengthened his squad with several major signings, including former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rushine De Reuck.

NEO MAEMA JOINS SIMBA SC AFTER CHAN
Straight after CHAN in Kampala, Uganda, where Maema captained South Africa, the Free State-born star travelled to Egypt to join his new teammates for pre-season.
Maema arrived in Egypt on Tuesday and has the club has since announced his arrival. “Welcome to Simba SC, Neo Maema,” the club wrote on its social media platforms.
Simba are eager to end Young Africans’ four-year dominance. Davids will be relying on the experience of the former Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder, who spent four seasons at the South African champions.
Maema won four league titles, the Nedbank Cup, one MTN8, and the African Football League. The 29-year-old made 120 appearances for Sundowns, scoring 13 goals.
Simba is expected to announce the signing of a new player, confirming his addition to the team in the coming days.
